weight-gain-dietsIf you have the goal of muscle growth, finding the right calorie intake for your weight gain diets is going to be one of the top priorities that you have to do.  You may come across a wide number of weight gain diets online but if you aren’t selecting one that’s of the right calorie intake for you, you are not going to get the results you’re looking for.

Calorie intake on weight gain diets is important because this is what will determine whether or not you actually build muscle and will also determine whether or not additional fat gain is added in the process.

If you want to stay lean while on your muscle building workout routine, you’re going to have to take in the perfect amount of calories to fuel the muscle growth process but not so many calories that you’re left with a huge surplus that has no where to go but to fat storage.

So how do you know which calorie level to choose from when you look at weight gain diets? Let’s go over a few of the important things that you need to know.

Your Body Weight

Firstly, you need to assess your body weight.  Since your muscle building calorie intake is highly dependant on how much you weigh, this will be the biggest deciding factor how much you have to eat.

Most people will take in somewhere between fifteen to twenty calories per pound of body weight, so by using this quick calculation you can get a rough estimate of the range you want to be in.

Your Activity Level

Second, you also must look at your activity level.  If you’re very active on a day to day basis this means you’ll be burning up more calories and will therefore require a higher calorie intake with your weight gain diets.

If you don’t replace the calories you’ve burned off your body is going to have no calories left over to devote to muscle building and thus you won’t make progress.

Those who are more active will want to lean to the higher end of the range given above while those who are less active will want to lean to the lower end of that range.

Your Desired Rate Of Weight Gain

Finally, the last thing to consider when selecting between weight gain diets with regards to calorie level is the desired rate of weight gain.  Are you looking to gain one pound a week or one pound every few weeks?

Or, are you looking to gain two pounds a week?  Remember that most natural trainees will gain just one or two pounds per month so if you’re gaining quite a bit more than this you could be adding additional body fat.

The higher the calorie intake you do use the more chances you’ll max out your muscle growth rate but the higher the chance you’ll also be adding body fat.

So think about your calorie intake careful as you go about choosing between weight gain diets.  It’s something that should be adjusted as you progress along with your muscle building workouts as well so you can find the perfect spot to be where you get the results you’re after.
